[Case Study] Solved by changing the material from silicone rubber to polyurethane! Extending the lifespan of the rubber fingertips of a robotic hand.
This is a case of material change for the fingertip components of a robot hand used in an automobile manufacturing line. In robot hands that grip metal parts such as automobile components, the edge of the parts repeatedly contacts the rubber, causing the silicone rubber used at the fingertips to wear out and requiring replacement approximately every two weeks. Therefore, the material was changed from silicone rubber to wear-resistant urethane rubber. This change significantly reduced wear caused by repeated contact with metal parts and greatly decreased the frequency of replacements. In actual usage conditions, it has been operating without issues for over a year since its introduction, contributing to reduced maintenance labor and stable operation of the production line.
